IPOPI Clinical Care Webinar: The A – Z of APDS

On the 23rd of November IPOPI held their 15th Webinar on Activated phosphoinositide 3-kinase delta syndrome (APDS).  The webinar was moderated by IPOPI´s President, Martine Pergent.

This first presentation was by Dr Virgil Dalm who, as many of you know, is a well-known and respected face on our webinars.  Dr Dalm started by explaining the use of the term “Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEI)” and took us through the background of APDS: introduction to the disease (include genetic basis, mutations, symptoms, severity); the emerging place of APDS in the CVID/CID spectrum; how it is diagnosed; genetic testing – from PID to APDS disease awareness – infection, lymphoproliferation and bronchiectasis.

The second presentation was by Dr Maria Elena Maccari.  Dr Maccari is in the Pediatrics Residency Program Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology of the Freiburg University Children’s Hospital and is now part of the physician scientist program at the Center for Chronic Immunodeficiency, with a specific focus on primary immunodeficiencies characterized by autoimmunity and lymphoproliferation, such as APDS. She has been working for several years now as a study physician for the ESID APDS Registry.  With this background and knowledge, Dr Maccari started her presentation explaining the ESID level 3 registry, treatment options and the pediatric point of view of APDS.

The question and answer session was very interesting with many questions asked to both Dr Dalm and Dr Maccari. We are grateful to Pharming for their kind donation making this webinar possible.

If you missed this webinar (and are wondering about the sweet bowl in the picture above) you will be able to see it on IPOPITv where all our webinars are available for on demand viewing. Please feel free to share these.
