IPOPI attends IPFA congress

IPOPI was pleased to participate once again in the annual International Workshop on “Surveillance and Screening of Blood Borne Pathogens” co-organised by the International Plasma Fractionation Association (IPFA) and the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut (PEI).

The 23rd edition of the Workshop was held in Lisbon on 25-26 May 2016 at the Lisbon Marriott Hotel. It was formally hosted by the Instituto Português do Sangue e da Transplantação (IPST – Portuguese Institute for Blood and Transplants).

The workshop addressed a diverse range of issues and specifically addressed the detection, epidemiology, costs and regulation of new and old agents, that threaten the safety of blood components and plasma derivatives. Topics of the sessions included the Phylogeny of established blood borne viruses, the world before and after the current Zika epidemic, understanding residual viral transmission risk and a manufacturers’ session among others.
