Greece – 5th Medical Symposium on Primary Immunodeficiencies

The 5th Symposium on Primary Immunodeficiencies – Paediatric Immunology was held in the Cycladic Museum of Athens, on the 21st and 22nd of April 2016 with great success. The Symposium was organised by the Department of Immunology-Histocompatibility, Paediatric Immunology,“Aghia Sophia” Children’s Hospital, Athens, in partnership with the Greek PID patient group ARMONIA.

The Symposium’s aim was to train doctors for early diagnosis and about lifesaving therapies for patients with Primary Immunodeficiencies. Participants also raised awareness of the existing health services, the importance of patients’ registry and the need for appropriate support and treatment to improve the quality of life of patients.

Distinguished speakers presented and discussed recent scientific developments on research, diagnostic and therapeutic level for Primary Immunodeficiencies. Keynote lecturers Prof Steven Holland and Prof Isabella Quinti presented new data and shared information on Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD) and immunoglobulin therapy respectively.
