World Immunology Day celebration in Chandigarh, India

In the frame of World Immunology Day, Ms Martine Pergent, IPOPI President, and Mr Bruce Lim, IPOPI Vice-President, attended a significant meeting at the advanced paediatric centre of the Post Graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India, on June 24 and 25, 2023. The meeting centred around primary immunodeficiency diseases and marked the first in-person team gathering since the start of the pandemic.

The first day featured a workshop for nurses on immunoglobulin replacement therapy, organised by UK nurses Sary Workman and Emily Carne, followed by a programme tailored for physicians, with international speakers, including Prof Reinhard Seger from Switzerland, Dr Pamela Lee, and Prof Kai Cheong from Hong Kong, welcomed by Professor Surjit Singh, Dr Deepti Suri, and their team.

This meeting was very well attended by many patients and parents with sick children, coming from different regions from India. Ms Martine Pergent gave a talk on the role of IPOPI in advocacy for PIDs, stating that patients can be very powerful and be real game changers when addressing their needs and joining efforts with physicians. She was followed by Mr Bruce Lim who presented PID awareness activities in Southeast Asia, underscoring the importance of each patient sharing their unique story to increase awareness.

At the event, parents shared deeply touching testimonies about their challenging journeys and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals.

IPOPI extends a warm thank you to the team at Chandigarh for this invitation.
