Update on the European Medicines Agency activities

The European Medicines Agency organised an online joint meeting for patient organisations and healthcare professionals on 2nd and 3rd March 2022.

In the agenda, there were several very relevant topics such as:

  • Information on the role of the EMA in the development and evaluation of advanced therapeutic medicinal products. A very informative and interesting session recommended for all those interested in learning more on advanced therapeutics, such as Strimvelis. The presentation is available here.
  • Covid-19: update from EMA representatives on the development of vaccines and therapeutics to treat COVID-19 and an update on the safety from already approved vaccines and medicines.
  • Discussion on EMA’s extended mandate: the Agency has seen its mandate extended to include the monitoring of shortages of medicines and devices, providing scientific advice, reviewing clinical-trial protocols, and rolling reviews during public-health emergencies. More information is available on the presentation.
  • In the section on members’ voices, Jose Drabwell introduced the participants to PID Life Index.

More information on the meeting as well as the presentations can be found here.
