Cyprus had a strong participation in the Rare Diseases Day (RDD) celebrations.
On February 28th the National Rare Diseases Commission of Cyprus held a Rare Disease Day event at Faneromeni Square in Nicosia with lots of activities for children and got media attention from a local radio.
On the following day a Press Conference was held by the Cyprus Alliance for Rare Disorders (CARD) calling for reform in health care for rare diseases in Cyprus. The occasion helped to raise awareness for the inclusion of rare diseases in a general health plan and the Minister of Health also took part in the event.
Several stakeholders such as the Pancyprian Federation of Associations of Patients and Friends (POSPF), the Cyprus Medical Association and many health professionals were also in attendance.
CARD prepared an awareness video on RDD that had the participation of the local PID patient representative.
