Honouring Professor Martin van Hagen’s Contributions to Clinical Immunology


We are proud to celebrate and announce that Professor Martin van Hagen, Vice-Chairman of IPOPI’s Medical Advisory Panel (MAP), has been appointed as Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau by His Majesty the King of the Netherlands.

The royal award was handed to Professor van Hagen by the Mayor of Schiedam, Netherlands, in recognition of his remarkable career and outstanding contributions to the field of clinical immunology and primary immunodeficiencies. With a distinguished 40-year career, Prof Van Hagen has made a lasting impact on healthcare and education worldwide.

As a pioneering internist and clinical immunologist, he was instrumental in establishing clinical immunology as a formal subspecialty within internal medicine in the Netherlands and played a key role in developing training programmes that have shaped generations of immunologists. His work has significantly advanced the diagnosis and treatment of rare immunological disorders, improving the lives of countless patients globally.

The prestigious Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau distinction is awarded to individuals who, through personal commitment, vision, and skills, have benefited society, especially at the international level. A well-deserved recognition to Professor van Hagen, who has dedicated his career to advancing global diagnosis and care for patients with PID and associated conditions.
