IPOPI speaks at LifeScience4EU on Advancing Health Innovation

On May 15 -16, Martine Pergent, President of IPOPI spoke at the LifeScience4EU Conference in Krakow, Poland. Organised under the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union, the conference gathered experts to discuss the future of health innovation.

Speaking on behalf of TRANSFORM, Martine focused on the various tools the EU can use to support the research and development of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). She emphasised that, from a patient perspective, “time to delivery is the principal success indicator,” alongside the critical need for effective monitoring of the continuity of supply. She also highlighted the fact that patient organisations should be considered as equal partners in research projects, including in accessing to funding.

Martine also pointed out the challenges facing European research consortia, particularly the underrepresentation of certain Member States and the structural inequalities limiting broader participation. She stressed the importance of addressing the fragmentation of R&D efforts across the EU, the insufficient prioritisation of translational projects, and the barriers to public-private collaboration. These issues, she argued, should influence the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) aimed at accelerating the journey from the lab to patient care.

Her speech underscored the importance of creating an environment conducive to fast-tracking innovations that could transform patient care across Europe.
