Portugal – Launch of a PID patient book ‘Thoughts and Confidences’
APDIP participated in the launch of the book Thoughts and Confidences (Pensamentos e Desabafos in Portuguese) written by Luís Patrocínio, a primary immunodeficiencies patient, on January 9th in Almendra, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, northern Portugal.
Luís Patrocínio was born in 1983 in Almendra. At the age of three, he was diagnosed with a primary immunodeficiency, making him very susceptible to infections.
Luís played masterfully with words and his life’s dream was to see his texts compiled and published in a book. Two years ago he was able to start such project but unfortunately he passed away last year before he was able to see it finalised.
The book launch took place in Almendra’s ball room with the support of Almendra’s and Vila Nova de Foz Côa’s local governments and culture representatives. APDIP’s President, Ricardo Pereira, was also present and had the opportunity to remember the strong will, the courage and sensitivity that characterised Luís.
The book compiles prose and poetry in many emotional descriptions of a life that was often affected by severe health complications. Luís was passionate about music, photography, cycling and hiking and from his writing it is clear how these passions influenced his writings.
Copies of the book can be bought in the Municipality Museum.
