IPOPI Hosts Latin American PID Patients Meeting in Buenos Aires

From 16–17 October 2025, IPOPI was delighted to host the Latin American PID Patients Meeting in Buenos Aires – an energising gathering that brought together patient leaders and healthcare professionals from 13 countries across the region: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela.

Over two enriching days, participants engaged in a dynamic programme of lectures, panel discussions, and skill-building workshops, creating a space for collaboration, empowerment, and shared learning across the region.

Key topics addressed included:

  • The current state and future of PID patient care in Latin America
  • Diagnosis improvements and innovation, including the role of AI and expanded newborn screening
  • Plasma collection and access, ensuring stable and safe supply of immunoglobulin (Ig) therapies
  • PID across the lifespan — childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and elderly care, with equal emphasis on physical and mental well-being
  • Treatment access, advocacy, and fundraising strategies to strengthen patient organisations

The meeting also served as a powerful platform to exchange national experiences, identify regional challenges, and collectively explore solutions that will benefit the entire PID community in Latin America.

Meeting resources, including the authorised presentations and photo gallery, are available here, and the meeting report will be released soon.

IPOPI thanks all participants, speakers, and partners for making this event a success. Together, we will continue to collaborate to advance diagnosis, access to treatment, and quality of life for people with PIDs across Latin America.

This meeting was made possible thanks to the support of CSL Behring and Grifols.
