Great participation at IPOPI’s Regional African Patients Meeting
One of the highlights this autumn was IPOPI’s African PID Patient’s Meeting, organised October 1-2, alongside the 7th Congress of the African Society for Immunodeficiencies (ASID). The meeting welcomed 57 participants from 11 countries and was for the very first time organised in a hybrid format, with Sudanese patient representatives attending the meeting in person in the city of Khartoum, and the other participants joining the session online.
This meeting offered a great opportunity for patient representatives in the region to exchange experiences with the aim to strengthen their national campaign efforts towards better care for PID patients in their countries and increase regional cooperation. The meeting programme featured a joint opening ceremony with ASID, followed by a two-day IPOPI meeting which combined educational lectures and patient workshops.
The objectives of the meeting were met, with an increased awareness of PID diagnosis and treatment as a result, and a strengthened African PID community. IPOPI was very pleased with this meeting, and already look forward to the next Regional African Meeting, taking place in 2023.
IPOPI would like to thank the African Society for Immunodeficiencies and IPOPI’s Sudanese member organisation the Sudanese Organisation for Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency for good collaboration and support towards this meeting.
More information about the meeting and its outcomes is available here.
The meeting was partly supported through an unrestricted grant from the National Bioproducts Institute (NBI).
