Finland – Summer camp and Autumn patients’ meeting

IPOPI National Member Organisation (NMO) in Finland, Imppu, held their second summer camp on July 7-9, at Yyteri Beach Hotel in western Finland, by the Gulf of Botnia.  The summer camp is aimed at PID members, families and their children and consists of lectures, children’s play areas, exciting activities and peer support. Members enjoyed the summer weather, the sand dunes and the ocean as well!

Dr Leena Kainulainen, from Turku University Hospital held a conversational, lectured for the parents about primary immunodeficiencies (PID). Meanwhile, the children had outdoor activities in Adventure Park Huikee such as climbing trees.
Families had the opportunity to use the hotel spa, pools and saunas all day and are looking forward to the next summer camp which we hope we will be able to organise.

On October 12 we held the traditional Autumn patients’ meeting, this time held in northern Finland, in the city of Oulu. Dr Timo Hautala spoke about the genetics of immunodeficiency disorders and PID patient Maarit Syväluoma shared the story of her disease.
After the meeting, the members gathered for dinner and had interesting conversations about their lives with PID.
