IPOPI, a speaker at the Council of Europe meeting on plasma supply continuity

Leire Solis spoke at a stakeholder meeting on plasma supply continuity organised by the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and Healthcare (EDQM) on 26 and 27 March 2025 in Strasbourg (France). Leire brought the patient perspective into plasma collection and the urgent need for countries to step up and increase their plasma collection so that more plasma is available for the manufacturing of immunoglobulin therapies.

The event aimed at providing an update on the latest developments in plasma supply in Europe and provide a forum to exchange on strategies to improve and increase the safe collection and adequate supply of plasma and plasma-derived medicines, such as immunoglobulins, addressing current challenges, key needs and actions.

The EDQM, part of the Council of Europe, is the body contributing to ensuring the availability of and access to good quality and safe medicines in 39 European countries and is responsible, amongst others, for the Guide to the preparation, use and quality assurance of blood components (also known as the Blood Guide). This Guide is a compendium of harmonised European standards that provide safety, efficacy and quality requirements for the preparation, use and quality control of blood components (amongst which plasma) in Europe and beyond.
