During this year’s World PI Week, the Ugandan NMO PIPO organised two PID seminars. The first one was carried out at Kabale Medical School in the South Western region and the participants were 57 junior clerks and three professors of pediatrics. It was a wonderful audience, for these are the pioneer students of this medical school and, as such, the seminar was extremely interactive. PIPO’s executive director, Dr Banson John Barugahare, delivered the general lecture on PIDs with background, global prevalence and management options. One of the professors presented a wonderful and interesting long case of B cell deficiency. It was agreed that each year, this group will have a PIDs’ seminar to keep in phase with the global trends and to qualify as PIDs’ champions of Uganda.

The second PIDs’ Seminar took place at Gulu University Medical School in Northern Uganda. Participants included one senior staff member from the department of pediatrics and 25 students from different clinical years. As in the previous seminar Dr Banson John Barugahare delivered the general lecture on PIDs regarding background, global prevalence and management options and, positively enough, this seminar was equally interactive. Interestingly, in this case, the participants shared experiences with PIDs’ misdiagnosis and challenges to vaccination efforts.
