IDFA Celebrates International Plasma Awareness Week

International Plasma Awareness Week, celebrated annually, raises global awareness around source plasma collection, acknowledges the essential contributions of donors and increases understanding of plasma protein therapies and rare diseases.

This year, IDFA activated its community by hosting a series of ‘Plasma Parties’ across Australia to shine a spotlight on the critical role of plasma donations. In collaboration with Lifeblood, these events brought communities together, emphasising the need for plasma donations to support those with primary immunodeficiencies.

During each Plasma Party, donors had a unique opportunity to meet an IDFA member, hear firsthand how their donations positively impact lives and see the powerful difference they make. With the demand high—around 130 plasma donations per year needed to support just one individual with a primary immunodeficiency—the events offered a meaningful way to close the circle and build awareness.

Throughout International Plasma Awareness Week, members connected with donors in multiple cities: Wollongong (NSW), Perth (WA), Newcastle (NSW), Strathpine (QLD), Mt Waverley (VIC), Sydney CBD (NSW), Brisbane (QLD) and Canberra (ACT). Each event highlighted the impact of plasma donations and expressed heartfelt thanks to donors with splashes of bright yellow and an array of treats to enjoy.
