Argentina – Informative webinar series
In the months of June, July and August, Argentine Association for the Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency (AAPIDP) organised a series of webinars about primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) and related topics with several invited immunologists, healthcare professionals, and legal experts. The webinars were patient-oriented but opened to the whole community and reached 1400 views. They were dedicated to: PIDs and COVID-19; Strategies for obtaining health coverage; Let’s talk about Transition; Respiratory care in PIDs.
For the younger members of our community, AAPIDP organised a virtually arts-and-crafts activity which coincided with the national Childhood Celebration month, observed in August. A series of videos were posted on AAPIDP’s social media, children made eco-friendly toys. A good opportunity for some fun and creative moment while at home.
Lastly, President of AAPIDP and of the Argentine RareDiseases Federation (FADEPOF), Roberta Anido de Pena, took part in the launch of a campaign initiative called #consecuencias (consequencies), led by five women, all ONG leaders, who got together to shed light onto the shortcomings of healthcare system accessibility, switching of medicines and delays in medicine delivery in Argentina.
They pointed out how health care system bureaucracy, healthcare providers’ reluctance to cover medical treatments and lack of law compliance highly impair patients’ care and their health needs. A proposal of 10 improvements was presented and can be read here at www.consecuencias.org.ar
