Spanish paediatric immunologists recognised as pionneers in the field

Three Spanish paediatric immunologists received an acknowledgement for being pioneers of the primary immunodeficiencies (PID) field due to their contributions to diagnosis and therapy of patients in Spain.
Dr Teresa Español, from Barcelona, who served for many years as IPOPI Medical Advisory Panel chairperson, Dr Gumersindo Fontan from Madrid and Dr Nuria Matamoros from Palma de Mallorca received the recognition at the Gala Dinner of the 17th European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) Biennial Meeting held in Barcelona, last September.

The three physicians were humbled by this recognition but happy to receive it in their home country.

The 17th ESID meeting held in Barcelona had 2,400 participants. Back in 1994 Barcelona (Sitges) hosted the 6th ESID Biennial Meeting with around 250 participants, all pioneers themselves. The last ESID meeting was another clear demonstration of the growing scientific advances in the field of PID.

IPOPI would like to congratulate all three physicians for this recognition.
