IPOPI attends SCID newborn screening European Expert Meeting

IPOPI actively participated in the European Expert Meeting on Severe Combined Immunodefiencies (SCID) newborn screening on 5-6 June 2015 in Vienna (Austria). The meeting brought together European and international experts in the field of SCID, as well as experts working in the screening laboratories and representatives from the International Society for Neonatal Screening and IPOPI. The meeting was kindly supported by Baxter.

Dr Nizar Mahlaoui (France), IPOPI MAP Vice President

The presentations provided invaluable information on the status of SCID newborn screening practices in European countries, as well as the United States and Israel. Johan Prévot, IPOPI’s Executive Director and Member of the Expert Meeting Steering Committee, contributed to the discussions by providing an overview of IPOPI’s SCID Newborn Screening campaigns at European and national level, including IPOPI’s support to the campaigns of its National Member Organisations and the new dedicated IPOPI website on SCID newborn screening.

As next steps, the steering committee of the European Expert Meetings will discuss a roadmap to support this exchange of information amongst experts and agree on a way forward to further develop SCID newborn screening in Europe.

Johan Prévot, IPOPI Executive Director
